Photobiomodulation Mechanisms and Dose: What the Evidence Can Explain
Mechanism research offers several plausible pathways for photobiomodulation, but it does not produce one universal wavelength, dose, schedule, or product setting. This synthesis compares six source-linked records and keeps laboratory explanation separate from consumer-device proof.

Multiple mechanisms remain under study
The reviewed literature discusses mitochondrial, signaling, inflammatory, photophysical, and tissue-response pathways. These explanations are not equally established, and a plausible mechanism is not the same as a demonstrated consumer outcome.
Later reviews and workshop reports emphasize that wavelength, irradiance, exposure time, tissue target, treatment area, and schedule must be reported together. A wavelength label alone is not a complete protocol.

Dose cannot be reduced to one number
Published protocols vary across lasers, LEDs, contact devices, panels, laboratory systems, and clinical equipment. The same nominal wavelength can be delivered with different power density, pulse pattern, distance, and treatment area.
For a home device, the useful question is whether the product facts and instructions are clear and repeatable. Category literature cannot supply an unverified setting for the rePretty Mat.
